Our athletic program assists every young man and woman enrolled at Faith Christian School to become complete in Christ.
The goal of our students’ total character development employs a partnership of soundly established academic and spiritual foundations and the final key element: a sound body. Faith Christian School (FCS) believes athletic involvement complements and enhances both the academic and spiritual potential of every student-athlete. Participation in Warrior team athletics teaches the value of a commitment to something bigger than one’s self. For most student-athletes, participation develops an intense, yet proper, competitive spirit needed to experience success in every area of their lives.
Faith Christian School encourages all its students to experience athletic competition. What is required of athletes often plays a powerful role in preparing them for the next steps and for all of life. Persistence, discipline, hard work, teamwork, fairness, camaraderie, the ability to both win and lose well, selflessness, and courage are all characteristics of a successful person. When godly coaches model godly behavior and mold students through athletics, lasting godly character is formed. Athletic competition can give students a deeper understanding of the Gospel itself.
Competition provides the opportunity to test ourselves with others and ourselves. Success is in the willingness to engage, the courage to compete, win or lose, and to offer one’s very best as enough. Competition can be an appropriate means of encouraging improvement and moving toward (not necessarily arriving at) excellence. To risk our ability in any area stretches us and often exposes motives driven by selfishness and pride.
Competition gives students unique chances to reflect on where they gain their ultimate worth and provides a foundation in a true belief that the Gospel proclaims God’s love before they have accomplished anything, and that nothing they can do will increase or decrease His love for them. FCS desires that its students experience the testing (physical, intellectual, emotional, spiritual) that competition brings, as well as God’s delight in expressing His gifts in them. Competition can build courage, develop leadership and followership, expose idols, give opportunity to learn humility and grace, and provide deep satisfaction in accomplishment through hard work.
The goal is that the students move beyond the act of competition to deepening their biblical understanding of its purpose, pitfalls, and rewards.
